This month- Re-Imagining Urban Spaces: Lessons From Delhi’s Planning History For Sustainable Development Goals by Dr.Ritu Priya, Professor, Centre of Social Medicine and Community Health, JNU. The talk would reconstruct the history of Delhi’s planned development and draw some lessons using the lens of the three pillars of sustainability—social justice, economic viability and environmental health. While explicating positive and negative lessons, it would examine ideas of a citizen’s city and of an ecologically smart city based on research and engagement with the urban poor and public health over three decades, to propose a re-imagination of the urban space and its planning for the South Asian context. DOC FILM
- Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein (In the Market Stands Kabir) (Hindi/Malwi/2009/94mins) Dir.Shabnam Virmani In 15th century north India, the mystic weaver Kabir spoke his poems in the market place, his spirituality firmly grounded in the public square. 600 years after his time, Kabir is found in both spaces – sacred and secular. This film interweaves his deification by the Kabir Panth sect with his secular appropriation by the social activist group Eklavya. The story unfolds through the life of Prahlad Tipanya, a Dalit singer whose participation in both domains, begins to raise difficult questions for him about ritual and organized religion. Screening followed by discussion with associates of the Kabir project. Collab: Kriti Film Club
