Focus Country – Hungary
The Focus Country this year is Hungary, presenting a rich and diverse showcase that celebrates a storied cinematic history spanning over 130 years. From its pioneering beginnings, Hungarian cinema has evolved into one of the world’s most distinctive art-house traditions.
The programme features contemporary award-winning films, alongside two retrospective segments honouring landmark works by two of Hungary’s most accomplished post-war filmmakers, István Szabó and Zoltán Fábri.
Birth Centenary Year Celebrations – Andrzej Wajda
The year 2026 marks the centenary of the birth of the legendary and globally acclaimed Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda. To commemorate this milestone, the Polish Institute in New Delhi presents a special retrospective of his masterworks, reflecting the many phases of his remarkable five-decade cinematic journey.
HIFF 2026 brings together films across time and geography that explore journeys—both literal and emotional. These are works that traverse inner landscapes and physical borders alike, reflecting a world in flux where migration, exile, and homecoming remain deeply felt realities. Alongside these movements are intimate explorations of personal and collective memory, where the past persists as a living presence.
NETPAC Showcase
In addition, the festival also features NETPAC awarded films of 2025. Network for the Promotion of Asian and Pacific Cinema, is a worldwide organization founded in 1990 by Aruna Vasudev as the result of a conference organized in New Delhi by Cinemaya, The Asian Film Quarterly, at the request of UNESCO, to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of Asian films and filmmakers at a time when Asian cinema was just coming into its own but was relatively unknown regionally and internationally. Now Asian and Pacific films have a prominent presence in cinemas worldwide. HIFF 2026 will showcase the work of four young Asian Filmmakers and films that have won NETPAC awards in the last year.
HIFF offers a superior viewing environment through Dolby Atmos sound and advanced projection technology and remains committed to expanding the intellectual horizons of its audience, ensuring a comprehensive cinematic experience.
