As they confront legal and cultural barriers, media attention and police scrutiny, their personal struggle unfolds against the vibrant rhythms of chawl life and Mumbai's rapid modernisation. Through themes of love, ageing, freedom and transience, the film explores the couple's journey as their way of life—and eventually their chawl—faces disappearance.
