Yarn: A Festival of Storytelling through Dance. Day 2. Praantath by Arupa Lahiri. A Bharatanatyam dance presentation exploring the maritime history of Gujarat and Maharashtra and their ancient trade routes across the Arabian Sea to Rome, Persia and the Middle East. Bringing life to cultural connections between Varuna and Poseidon, and Lakshmi and Venus through Bharatanatyam, Dastangoi and live Carnatic music - woven in Gujarati, Charani, Persian, Urdu, Sanskrit, Bengali and Hindi, Praantath explores stories of maritime exchange, trade and cultural interaction. Followed by Parvati Parinay – brings alive the timeless tale of Kāmadeva’s burning, Rati’s lament, and Devi Parvati’s intense tapasya to attain Lord Shiva, culminating in the divine union of Shiva and Shakti through the expressive language of Kathak. Performed by Sunil Sunkara & Dr. Piyush Raj. The production carries forward the traditional art of storytelling in Kathak, rooted in the adage “Katha Kare Ko Kathak Kahave.” Collab. Natavari Kathak Nritya Academy.
