The First Film (2023/ Hindi with English subtitles/ 25 mins) Dir. Piyush Thakur. In a small town of 1960’s India, where cinema is forbidden for women, a 14-year-old embarks on a quest to watch her first film.
Game Flip (Docu/ 2024/ English, Hindi with subtitles/ 18 mins) Dirs. Ahammed Shemeel, Bhuvana Sri V, Riya Singh, Rohith J, Ruguosanuo Angeline Kez. The film follows Wild Wild Women, India’s first all-woman hip hop collective, as they take the stage for a concert at a club in Mumbai. At the intersection between art and activism, they express their goal of creating a space for women within the male-dominated hip hop scene, changing the story and flipping the game.
Bandra Christmas (2025/ Hindi, English with subtitles/ 40 mins) Dir. Alankrita Shrivastava. A story of two young ingenious working-class girls from Bombay, who are out for a night of fun on Christmas Eve. As they use morally ambiguous means to claw their way into a fancy party, and an after-party at a hotel, we see a critique of the class divide and the joy of sisterhood within the working class.
All screenings will be followed by conversations with attending filmmakers and guest speakers.
