The Kashmir Shawl and how it influenced Russian Shawls by Olga Lystsova, art historian. An illustrated talk on the classical Kashmir shawls and its Russian imitations, which adapted the Boteh/Paisley motif with more realistic garden flowers and brighter colour palettes, while retaining the traditional Indian borders and medallions with distinct Russian symmetry, and how the Kashmir motifs were integrated into the 19th-century Russian costume.
